I've tried contacting Brother Support, but the person I talked to wasn't even aware that M1 Macs were a thing and forwarded my support request to their tech department.Īre printer drivers architecture-specific? Is there by any chance a workaround? Or do I need to send the printer back? Installing it from the App Store works and it can communicate with the printer, but it can only print PDF or image files, which is utterly useless to me. The Brother iPrint & Scan app downloadable from their website runs through the installer, but the App doesn't seem to be installed. It's found both via WiFi and and USB in the printer settings, but no compatible driver from Apple is found and in the manual list, the driver from Brother is not listed. Installing the printer, however, was a no-go. Setup tools downloaded and worked fine Firmware update worked without a hitch and driver installation (ICA printer driver for MacOS11) worked fine as well. I received a new Borther DCP-1612W laser printer/scanner today. M1 and Brother DCP-1612W Printer Hey all, Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem - Apple Support A pure experiment.Īlso, if necessary, try resetting the printing system and re-adding the printer. This may result in nothing, but you never know. So, if the old HL-1430 OS X 10.10 driver cannot be used with your new Mac, you could perhaps carry out a test with (for example) an HL-2130 macOS Catalina 10.15 driver. Interesting is that the driver used for an HL-2130 with OS X 10.10 seems to be similar, but in this case there is a higher version macOS Catalina 10.15 driver as well (which would be 64-bit). Apparently, the printer cannot handle PostScript nor PCL, thus probably preventing the use of generic drivers.Īccording to the HL-1430 support page, the latest Mac drivers are for OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

Unfortunately, the HL-1430 appears to be a GDI (host-based) printer, which makes it difficult to use other drivers than those supplied by the printer manufacturer.
